More Information about CÓRus singing classes

Our History

Set up in 2010 by Mary Lowe and Yvonne McDonald – CÓRus is an adult education company offering group singing lessons for adults. The founders spotted a gap in the adult education sector for people who would not or could not join a choir as they would not or could not read music and/or lacked confidence in their singing ability. CÓRus has developed a teaching methodology that translates the complicated world of three and four part music harmony in a fun and accessible way.

CÓRus teaches ordinary people with ordinary voices how to make an extraordinary sound.  Our adult group classes are made up of learning, practice and reprising and are a combination of great fun, great music and great company which run for an hour and a half each week.  CÓRus also provides a unique opportunity for hundreds of singers to come together during the academic year for massed concerts, charity events or Press & PR opportunities.

CÓRus is going from strength to strength and believes the scientifically proven benefits of singing (particularly group singing) on our mental, physical and social wellbeing is one of the reasons (along with the great music and moves!) that CÓRus classes have been thriving and will continue to do so for years to come.

Who are CÓRus singing classes for?

CÓRus singing classes are open to everyone over 18yrs and appeals to those who love to sing but may not have the confidence to join a singing class/choir or sing in public.

In CÓRus we believe that we all have the right and the ability to sing.  We want to give everyone the opportunity to learn to sing with like-minded people in a fun and relaxed environment.

People coming along to one of our singing classes do not have to audition or be able to read music.

How do I sign up for a class?

For newcomers to CÓRus  you can simply register your interest online here and we will get in contact with you. Alternatively you can simply call the office on 087 9676 351 or 087 6139 261 and we will set you up with everything you need to get started.

For returning members, signing up online is also very easy. Go to our payment  page and use a credit/debit card to make a payment. You can register for one term at a time or for all three terms.

How much does it cost?

CÓRus offers fantastic value for money. Our classes run for an hour and a half and cost €130 for a ten week term – with three terms each year running from Sept – May.

CÓRus provides a huge resource of online learning materials including audio, video and audio-visual aids which is included in the term fee.

Occasionally, CÓRus runs a social rehearsal. This is an opportunity for all of our class members to come together to sing the songs they’ve learned in class and experience what it is like to sing in a choir with hundreds of like minded people. It’s a great place to meet up with other CÓRus singers and socialise with your friends for a few hours. There will be a cover charge for attending these rehearsals and an extra charge for tea and coffee.

CÓRus classes are also invited to participate at various events during the year which are fun and exciting to take part in.

The end of year concert in the Helix Theatre is a huge date in the CÓRus calendar. This is a great opportunity for class members to showcase their class achievements. There is a fee of €20 to take part in the concert to cover the costs of the additional joint rehearsals, staffing and administration.

Class members are invited but not obliged to take part in any activity outside of class.
