More Information about CÓRus

Our History

Set up in 2010 by Mary Lowe and Yvonne McDonald – CÓRus is an adult education company offering group singing classes for adults. The founders spotted a gap in the adult education sector for people who would not or could not join a choir as they would not or could not read music and/or lacked confidence in their singing ability. CÓRus has developed a teaching methodology that translates the complicated world of three and four part harmony in a fun and accessible way.

We now have almost 1,000 adults learners attending one of our classes in sixteen different venues all over Dublin each week and we are continuing to grow!

Who are CÓRus classes for?

CÓRus singing classes are open to men and women over 18yrs and appeals to those who love to sing but may not have the confidence to join a singing class or sing in public.

In CÓRus we believe that we all have the right and the ability to sing.  We want to give everyone the opportunity to learn to sing with like-minded people in a fun and relaxed environment.

People coming along to one of our classes do not have to audition or be able to read music.

How do I sign up for a class?

For newcomers to CÓRus we offer you the opportunity to “try out” one class for free to see if it’s for you before joining for the term. Come along to any of our classes about 15 minutes before they are due to start or simply register your interest online here.

If you decide CÓRus is for you, simply call the office on 087 9676 351 or 087 6139 261 and we will set you up with everything you need to get started.

For returning members, signing up online is also very easy. Go to our payment  page and use a credit/debit card to make a payment. You can register for one term at a time or for all three terms.

How much does it cost?

CÓRus offers fantastic value for money. Our classes run for an hour and a half and cost €120 for a ten week term – with three terms each year running from Sept – May. (CÓRus operates a sliding scale rate for new class members joining later in a term).

On receipt of a class fee, you will receive  materials which include a CD and lyrics. Each class covers the same curriculum and you may attend one or more classes each week.

Occasionally, CÓRus runs a social rehearsal. This is an opportunity for all of our class members to come together to sing the songs they’ve learned in class and experience what it is like to sing with hundreds of like minded people. It’s a great place to meet up with other CÓRus singers and socialise with your friends for a few hours. There will be a cover charge for attending these rehearsals and an extra charge for tea and coffee.

CÓRus classes are also invited to participate at various events during the year which are fun and exciting to take part in.

The end of year concert in the Helix Theatre is a huge date in the CÓRus calendar. This is a great opportunity for class members to showcase their class achievements. There is a fee of €20 to take part in the concert to cover the costs of the additional joint rehearsals, staffing and administration.

Class members are invited but not obliged to take part in any activity outside of class.
